HSBC Brings Its First Stablecoin to More Than 3 Million App Users
HSBC has begun rolling out its first stablecoin to more than 3 million everyday app users, as Hong Kong’s licensed digital-asset market expands.

HSBC is rolling out its first stablecoin to more than 3 million people who use the bank’s everyday app services. The move places a digital-dollar-style payment asset inside a large existing banking user base, rather than limiting access to specialist cryptocurrency platforms.
A banking rollout in Hong Kong
The rollout comes as Hong Kong develops a regulated framework for stablecoin issuers. Stablecoins are digital assets designed to maintain a stable value, and are commonly discussed as tools for payments, settlement and transfers. Bringing one into a mainstream banking app could make the technology more visible to customers who do not otherwise interact with crypto markets.
HSBC’s rollout is separate from the launch activity around HKDAP, a stablecoin associated with Anchorpoint. HSBC and Standard Chartered led Anchorpoint, which received one of Hong Kong’s first stablecoin issuer licenses in April. Anchorpoint began rolling out HKDAP in August.
Why the user base matters
The scale of HSBC’s app audience is the central feature of the announcement. More than 3 million everyday users are potentially exposed to the bank’s stablecoin offering through a familiar financial channel. That gives the initiative a different starting point from projects that first seek adoption among crypto-native users.
The development also highlights the range of stablecoin activity emerging in Hong Kong. Licensed issuers are beginning to introduce products while established banks test how digital assets can fit into existing customer services. The available information does not specify the stablecoin’s name, technical design, intended uses or the exact timing and scope of the HSBC rollout.
