Bitcoin edges lower as South Korean stocks slide on AI concerns

Bitcoin moved lower alongside a broader bout of weakness in Asian markets, showing that demand through spot exchange-traded funds did not prevent a modest pullback in the cryptocurrency. Bitcoin slipped 0.5% to trade around $81,400 as South Korea’s Kospi index dropped 3.7%.

ETF inflows fail to lift bitcoin

The decline came even as spot bitcoin ETFs recorded their biggest single-day inflow in nearly a month. The combination points to a market in which fresh ETF demand was present but was not strong enough to offset the pressure affecting risk-sensitive assets during the session.

Spot ETFs give investors a regulated market vehicle for gaining exposure to bitcoin without holding the asset directly. Daily inflows are therefore closely watched as one measure of demand from traditional-market participants. In this case, the positive flow did not translate into a higher bitcoin price on the day.

Asian equities set a cautious tone

The sharp decline in the Kospi followed weakness in Asian chip stocks, with concerns about AI weighing on the sector. That equity-market move provided the main backdrop for bitcoin’s retreat, although the cryptocurrency’s decline was considerably smaller than the fall in South Korea’s benchmark.

The session highlights the way bitcoin can trade alongside broader technology and risk markets, even when crypto-specific demand indicators remain constructive. For market participants, the cross-asset contrast is notable: ETF buying pointed to continued interest in bitcoin, while the simultaneous weakness in Asian equities reflected a more cautious tone.

Bitcoin’s 0.5% decline was limited compared with the Kospi’s 3.7% drop, but the move underscored the difficulty of reading price direction from any single market signal. ETF flows, technology-stock performance and broader investor sentiment were moving in different directions during the session.
