Sberbank to Open In-App Crypto Trading to All Clients
Russia’s largest bank is testing Bitcoin, Ether and Tether trading in its app ahead of a planned Dec. 1 rollout for all clients.

Sberbank, described as Russia’s largest bank, is preparing to make cryptocurrency trading available to all of its clients through its mobile app. The bank has secured approval for the service and plans to open access on Dec. 1.
The offering is currently in a testing phase. Sberbank is testing trades in Bitcoin, Ether and Tether, giving the bank’s app users exposure to two of the largest cryptoassets by market presence as well as a dollar-pegged stablecoin.
Crypto access through a bank app
The planned rollout would place crypto trading alongside Sberbank’s existing digital banking services. Rather than requiring clients to use a separate crypto-focused platform, the service is being developed inside the bank’s app, according to the available details.
For Coingeography readers, the development is notable because it links a major traditional financial institution with direct access to spot crypto trading. The initial asset list also spans different parts of the digital-asset market: Bitcoin and Ether are widely traded cryptocurrencies, while Tether is a stablecoin designed to track the value of the U.S. dollar.
A limited initial asset set
Sberbank’s testing of BTC, ETH and USDT suggests that the service will begin with a focused selection rather than a broad range of digital assets. The summary does not provide details on fees, custody arrangements, trading limits, settlement procedures or whether clients will be able to withdraw the assets to external wallets.
Those details may be important for clients evaluating how the bank’s service differs from other ways of accessing crypto markets. For now, the confirmed information is that testing is underway, approval has been secured, and the bank intends to extend access to all clients on Dec. 1.
